Because of that, many people aren't familiar with what the Recorder's Office does—or why our work is so important to every property owner in Lorain County.

Our mission is simple: to preserve, protect, and provide access to the official land records of Lorain County.

Every deed, mortgage, easement, release, subdivision plat, military discharge, and other record accepted for recording becomes part of the county's permanent public record. These documents establish property ownership, document legal interests in land, preserve the history of our communities, and provide an official record that residents, businesses, and public agencies rely on every day.

Property ownership is one of the largest investments many people will ever make. Maintaining accurate and reliable public records helps protect that investment by creating an official history of ownership and recorded transactions. The Recorder's Office is also committed to making government more accessible.

Over the past several years, we've continued improving our website, expanding online services, and making it easier for residents to find information without needing to visit the office. We also offer free resources designed to help residents better understand our services and protect their property. Our RecordALERT™ program allows property owners to receive email notifications whenever a document is recorded under their name, helping them stay informed about activity involving their property.
