recording DD214 and NGB22 discharges
Lorain County Recorder Mike Doran is committed to our Veterans. We are happy to record your discharge papers and Honorable Discharge Certificate at NO COST. Recording your discharge allows you to keep your original in a safe place and use the certified copies from the Recorder’s office when needed.

Your military discharge record is one of the most important documents a veteran will receive. The discharge record pertaining to active military service is referred to as a DD214. The discharge record for any National Guard or Reserve service is referred to as a NGB22. If you have an original or certified discharge document, we strongly recommend it be recorded.

After your military discharge is recorded, you can come to our office and receive a certified copy at no charge, and this will act as the original.

veteran id cards
Veteran ID cards will be issued to honorably discharged veterans who present their original (or certified copy) Armed Forces Discharge Record - either DD214 or NGB22 - to the Lorain County Recorder for an official recording. Veterans must provide 2 forms of current and valid identification, (including 1 photo ID, like your driver’s license). Your veteran ID card is good for 10 years.
no appointment required
You do not have to schedule an appointment for recording your discharge papers or for obtaining your veteran ID card. Just visit the Recorder's office at any time within our operating hours. We are open Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.
